Network Management Applet and 14.1 RC2
I noticed a couple of minor issues in the Network Monitor applet in KDE in 14.1 RC2. Under "WLAN Interface" it shows "IP Gateway: No IP Gateway" even though I have set one in the settings (it's my router--I entered the settings manually instead of using DHCP) and it shows up properly via "route -n".

Also on the Interfaces screen, the checkmarks in the boxes for "Enable networking" and "Enable wireless" are not displayed. The checkboxes still work, you just can't see what they're set at.

I didn't see this behavior using AlienBob's KDE 4.10.5 packages for Slackware 14.0. FWIW, I'm using an ASUS USB-N53 adapter (rt2800usb kernel module) with an ASUS RT-N66U router. The network is otherwise working fine. I discovered these problems when I was trying to debug some network issues.

I was wrong. It is the "Network Monitor" applet. Unfortunately I can't change the thread title.

I have this same issue and it's been bugging me for several years, yet there has been No info anywhere, other than this post i finally found.

In Addition I i set up a 'connection' in Network Manager (NM) using DHCP (automatic) I get an IPv4 Gateway: in Network Monitor AND at console when I type # route the info is displayed almost instantly.

Conversely, If I set up a 'connection' in NM 'manually'; specifying the IP, GW, DNS servers etc. I get 'No IP gateway' in the Network Monitor AND when I type # route, it takes 1 to 3 minutes to display the route...

This is true whether I'm on my 'old' openSuSE 11.2 or new 12.3..

Why? Any ideas?

Maybe you should ask on the SuSE forum instead of the Slackware one.
