Need help to fix up a home directory after freerock spanked me
 

Hi all,

I'm still trying to fix my home directory after putting in free rock.

I dumped and reinstalled slackware 10.2 before doing their install, but I won't even go there for now.

They're fixes just don't work, that said I can't even get a home icon in KDE.

Freerock just owns my Kmenu, they won't allow me to add an icon, change an icon, nothing!

Any ideas?

I can't get into my home directory on that pc except running konqueror, but when I log out, freerock delete's my recent items!!!

A possible solution to your problem can be found (hopefully) on gsb.freerock faq pages while reading the section: "My KDE Menus are all messed up after installing FRG/GSB! How do I fix them?".

Look in your /home/<user>/.config/menus directory.
Deleting any menu set-up files in there (or moving them temporarily) and restarting KDE "should" return you to the default KDE menu set-up. If not, it may allow the freerock fixes to do what they were intended to do.

I am, at the moment, testing frg-unstable (Gnome-2.16.0) on -current as of 9/17 and this created my normal KDE menus when I just tested it - I was not having any menu issues at this time though.

I have on occasion experienced some uncooperative menu's as a result of freerock, but more often then not the fixes outlined in the FAQ have helped.

Ok franklin I'll give that a shot.

I'd really like to get this freerock working, because there are so many app's in gnu/linux I'd like to use that require many a gnome library here or there. I really feel like my hands are tied on slack at times because of this.

Any way.

Assuming I can get the home fixed. My intention is to use KDE on that box full time, but as needed run a gnome app.

Is there anyway to stop completely gnome from putting anything into my KDE menu. Heck, I'd rather do them all by hand if need be, but the freerock just undoes every change I do.

I'm trying latest stable, and it's upto date via the slapt-get.

I'm just confused as heck tho why SuSE, ubuntu, kubuntu, can do this and Freerock has issues...I digress.
