Hello,
I have several Windows XP Professional computers in the house that are sharing files with one another, and I want to get this Slack 9.1 machine to do that, what do I need to do ?
LISA is the LAN Information Server, it lets you see the XP-Computer's network names instead of their IPs in the local network.
SAMBA manages the filesharing itself - accessing another machines, access to your machine, file transfers etc pp.
A little hint: Subdirectories from the /root folder can't be set up to be shared in local area networks via SAMBA, and many programs (such as mplayer) have extra options in their configure script to support files that are accessed via SAMBA.
Tell us when you installed both of them - I guess you'll need help with the config :-)
Seppel
PS: Search around this forum - you aren't the first one trying to set up LAN-filesharing with Slackware!
I'm also trying to successfully network my computer with the other 3 windows XP machines. I set samba up correctly, they can see my shares, I believe the problem lies with LISA. I have it configured to load on boot, I think I set it up correctly, but I can't see any machines on the lan. Trying to access the LAN browser in Konqueror either only returns lan:/localhost or that LISA is not currently running.
For details my internal IP is 192.168.0.6 255.255.255.0, the other machines on the network only go up to maybe .8. If needed I'll post my lisa config to show what I have set up so far.
