Angry need help!compiled kernel,didnt work.cant get into sysstem?


i compiled a custom kernel,but apparantly the i915 driver isnt supported so when i hit startx it flickers and goes back to the boot screen,saying the module isnt supported.my backup kernel isnt listed on the boot screen?
so now i cant get into the system.is there a way i can boot the other kernel from the command line?can i query lilo?i really dont want to reinstall ive done a ton of work on this install. this kernel would have worked but for the video driverscan anyone rescue me??please!

You can use the Slackware CDs/DVDs to boot the box. Then manually mount the partition containing the lilo config file and edit. I don't use lilo but perhaps lilo allows interrupting the boot to manually edit the boot option. Grub allows this and is handy.

Just a note, when I compile and test a new kernel, I always create a new boot entry in my boot config file (I use grub). If my new kernel bombs, I reboot and select the previous known good kernel menu option.

ok i managed to recompile in x and made a new kernel,it works so i guess im all set.thanks for the info.
