need .bash_profile example

when i upgraded to kde 3.2, for some reason it wiped out my .bash_profile. can someone post an example for me? i really dont knwo much about it, so comments would be helpful. what i really want is the colors back in my konsole and instead of
bash-2.05b$

i want something that says the directory i am in, etc. just the little things that went away.

and in slackware, where are you supposed to put aliases? bashrc? bash_profile? i get confused... thanks

Re: need .bash_profile example

all that stuff goes in ~/.bashrc. i think .bash_profile just tells bash to use ~/.bashrc.

to change your prompt, check out the bashprompt howto in my bookmarks. here's an excerpt from my .bashrc to maybe give you a head start:

# /etc/profile: This file contains system-wide defaults used by
# all Bourne (and related) shells.

# Set the values for some environment variables:
export MINICOM="-c on"
export MANPATH=/usr/local/man:/usr/man:/usr/X11R6/man
export HOSTNAME="`cat /etc/HOSTNAME`"
export LESSOPEN="|lesspipe.sh %s"
export LESS="-M"

# User-defined section

export TERM=xterm-color
alias ls='ls -F --color'
alias ll='ls -lh'
alias la='ls -a'
alias lal='la -alh'
alias cdup='cd ..'

alias giftcurs='giFTcurs'
alias gui='startxfce4 -nolisten tcp'
alias fold='./FAH4Console-Linux.exe -advmethods -forceSSE'

Things go smother in a forum when you actually read your previous threads instead of starting another on esentially the same topic.
