Need a Window Manager

There are so many to choose from, arghhhhhhhh
Please tell me what you like and what works best for slack.
I really want those transparent screens and speed and those cool meters that show your resource usage. Icon usage would be a plus too.

You can do that in any DE you choose. Pick them all, try them, see what you like.

Powerful ones, KDE, Gnome
Good looking with less bloat, Xfce
smaller ones, fluxbox, blackbox, twm,

the list is endless. it all depends on what you want.

EDIT: use xwmconfig to choose between them, then startx

mianve, my experience with WM was that if you want something outstanding (without using a desktop like KDE, GNOME, Enlighentment Xfce, WindowMaker, Afterstep, etc ,etc) you will need to read, try, look for, and more about configuring the window manager you're using. Most WM will look ugly, or too default as they are distributed to you, those resource you said are usually extra programs that you need to download and configure.

A few words you might want to search:
desklets, dockapps, torsmo, gkrellm, fvwm, blackbox, fluxbox, openbox, pekwm, I don't know, there are some many things you can add to a desktop

A list of window managers: http://xwinman.org/

Actually all the WM's work well with slack.
But If you are a Begginer to Linux you Should KDE + SuperKaramba (for the cool meters) or Gnome + Gdesklets

or you could use
WM's like XFCE

But i Prefer Fluxbox/OpenBox with gdesklets.

Also look at Enligtenment, the DR17 is really good but of course it is't stable yet

I agree. KDE is a beauty, and good to begin with. Afterwards if you want the beauty of kde but without the bloat, Xfce is perfect for that.

Speaking of which, Xfce 4.2.2 is out in current now

Not that i know of, no. I haven't restarted X yet, working on something important atm. But afaik all should work well. Keep a note though.. i don't like Xfce's file manager.. i still use KDE's konqueror file manager in Xfce.

Just right click on a folder icon on the bottom taskbar > properties > and replace the command with
Code:
kfmclient openProfile filemanagement

Thanks guys. I have the resources for KDE.

I'm just asking all these questions because I miss my Slack Box.
It's at home and I'm stuck at work.
I am totally consumed by it.
It's all I think about.
There is so much I want to do.

I need help.

Is there a S.A.?

Slackware Anonymous for linux addicts?

They're two different operating systems. (not distributions).

Slack = Linux
Solaris = Unix (afaicfo)
Windows = fsck knows anymore

But slack is very close to unix in performance and looks.. it made my move to Solaris very painless (except for vi...)

I see the operating system is free, but the media kit is not.

I have the computer resources but lack in the financial resources.

Besides, I've fallen in love with Linux & Slack.

For x86, you're better sticking to Linux, as it has much better hardware support than Solaris x86.

If on the other hand you have a new Sparc based server as someone we'll anonymously refer to as Mr X () has, then by all means have a crack at Solaris.

Couldn't you install nano (using vi is just asking for a world of pain...)?

To install nano, i had to configure the network first.. to configure the network, i had to edit a few files. Some had just one line to edit, some had multiple lines.. And you will never see me crack tables as much as i did that week coz of vi... Some apps are just so evil you can literally hear Mr X's teeth grinding and the sparks flying..

EDIT:
----
Err.. did i say "Mr X" by mistake?
