named bind register domains?

i would like to register my linux machine, and do not want to use the ghetto companies on the internet to do so. my linux crash course in college was OK, it was ok enough to get me interested, but the modules were like 1 week perl programing and 1 week named.

im wondering how i would register my self, as my own dns, running my own domain name, so i dont have to feed people my ghetto ip address, and so i can be like "look at this www.myghettodomainname.com" instead.

i know im leaving alot out, like how im accessing this web page from an isps dns server, and how i would like to push my own domain name to my isps dns and have my isps dns push it to convergence with the rest of the net. is anyone here more skilled at this than i am? thanks! =D

Do you already have an existing domain? If so, make sure that the domain is pointed on your DNS, then from there you can do whatever zone entries you want ot add.

Your domain name and name servers have to be declared to Internic

Availability of domain name:
http://www.internic.net/whois.html

Faq:
http://www.internic.net/faqs/authoritative-dns.html

Now if you want to add your domain name in your ISP name server databases,
try contact your ISP

You'd probably be happy enough with a service like a dyndns.com free account. I recommend you check them out.
