mysql-connector-java

Over the years I've been using mysql-connector-java to connect to mysql and subsequently mariadb.

I've always obtained it from slackbuilds.

It appears to be no longer there.

What's the story? Is it out of favour?

Hmm, so it was removed in December 2013.

I wonder where I acquired 8.0.12 from. I thought I got it from Slackbuilds in November 2018.

So all that's wrong with it is that there's no maintainer.

If it goes wrong or needs upgrading I have to sort it out myself. If I do that I should really share it with the rest of the community.

I've been using the mysql-connector-java-8.0.12 and have found out in the last week that it's buggy. Playing havoc with dates in my database.

The LibreOffice developers pointed out that the mysql-connector-java-8.0.12 was buggy. They suggested I use the mariadb connector instead. Couldn't get it to work possibly because the instructions are so terse.

Anyway reverted back to mysql-connector-java-5.1.39 which is better. Though, wish I could remember why I upgraded to mysql-connector-java-8.0.12 in the first place.

In the end I used mariadb-java-client-2.2.3.jar and org.mariadb.jdbc.Driver
