Unhappy my voodoo3 works only for root

Hi there, anyone knows what to do to get the DRI working for a regular user. I'm runing Slack9, and I got my voodoo3 3000 working in DRI mode but only for the root.

I tried:
chgrp users -R /dev/dri # that didn't help
chmod o+rwx -R /dev/dri # that didn't help

Is this a permission issue or not?

I saw someone having a similar problem, but I can't find that thread anymore

Thanks for replying ... but setting the userID on execute did'n help.

I did some googling-around and found that I'm missing the /dev/3dfx device ... but then agin that page was dated 1999 ... I hate my voodoo.

Hi,
Just add the following to ur XF86Config - which allows other users to use DRI :

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection

hope that helps,

I had the same problem - though in my case it was my rather *LAME* integrated intel 815...

Just out of curiosity, what sort of framerate do u get with ur voodoo3 in glxgears ?? I get around 400fps in my intel815!!

On my PC (AMD XP1700+, 512SDRAM, Voodoo3 3000 16MB) I get 1240 first and after that it's 1495 all the time ... without resizing the glxgears window ofcourse. But Wolf ET is much much slower (not software mode slow though) in linux then on win2k (same PC) ... I bet it's the outdated linux voodoo3 drivers
