My Thoughts on LQ

Hi guys, I wanted to share my thoughts about this forum being a new user that has received a lot of both good and bad attention the 1st week of joining.

This message is for all that I offended and also to all new LQ users to let them know about this forum as well.

I want to apoligise to all of you that i offended in any way whatso ever. After taking a long walk in the woods and relaxing my mind in all reality I have realised that I have written a lot of posts based on my Ego instead of asking "real" questions and to really contribute to Slackware and LQ.

I guess the worst foot I started off on was my persistence of trying to get other peoples opinion on comparing RHEL to Slackware. And this is going out to all new LQ users, please if you don't want to rub people the wrong way do not do what I did and compare 2 distros, especially as persistent and arrogantly as I did hurting a lot of people in between just to get an opinion.

But other then that I was so focused on arguing that I was not able to thank enough the people that have really gave me some great advice for example: ReaperX7, Tobi, unSpawn and even Patrick himself!... just to name a few.

So please accept my apoliges, I will try as hard as possible to keep my ego crushed next time I post here. But I also hope that we can be mutually respectful towards each others opinions as well because this is what makes LQ a great place. Lets make this a better place. Because it has all the reasons to. Out of all the forums I have visited, I have found LQ to be the forum with the smartest and most knowledgeable people with the best answers by far. From learning UNIX philosophy from Tobi's links to hardware support I have learned a lot here and I have changed the way I think in just 1 week about many things in a dramatic way. I now love Unix Philosophy and the Command Line and Slackware because it is the best distro for this purpose. Thank you guys!

Well, Mercury305, I have seen some of your threads around and I may have responded to some of them, but I don't, off the top of my head, remember your being quite as--er--unpleasant? as you make yourself out to be. Maybe I missed something.

Anyhow, welcome to LQ once more all over again.

No hard feelings, Mercury305. And you weren't the only person who could have exercised better judgement.

Definitely looking forward to more of your participation.

Comparing distros is like comparing religion - ain't never gonna be a winner. :)

@Mercury305, don't worry we all have been there sometimes. So I expect everything is fine as long as everyone promises to try to be better the next time.
Well, like I said in the earlier posts, we would be expecting something from you that will add vaule to LQ :).

For the agnostic among us, my latin teacher at the university used to say there is no "best" latin grammar. The "best" latin grammar is just the one you're comfortable with.

That being said, Slackware is excellent for learning, since there's no handholding and complete transparency. Back in 2007, I did a three month training course for a staff of sysadmins from the local employment agency. Everyone got a set of Slackware CDs at the beginning of the course, and then it was just a matter of getting hands dirty. They enjoyed it.

IIRC one of the thesis of Pascal BOYER in Religion Explained is that religious people behave like any other coalition of human beings from back in pre-historical times: they try to protect themselves as a community.
This book was first published in French under the title Et l'Homme créa les Dieux.
As the saying goes: Si non è vero, è ben trovato.

@Mercury305: I appreciate what you wrote and am sure you will find here answers to your questions as well as occasions to answer other people's questions.

I see NO issue with any of your posts. You are the opposite of what I consider to be the real "bad actors" here---the people who start random threads on random topics, and then do not follow up.

It wasn't so much what you said, as the way you said it that irritated some members. However, nobody's perfect, we all say or do the wrong things at times. So, let's forget about it, and move on.

I wasn't involved but I certainly gained some entertainment value from the whole affair, especially when the ChangeLog entry came out.

I wonder if that was a coincidence or deliberate? :)

Yes, and I was unable to view it that way. I just viewed distros as tools with different purposes. Well if you want to know my religion I am a Slackwarian after a long meditation and comparison to Red Hat. We all have our reasons to choose a religion, I got baptized in LQ not too long ago.

Thanks man, i forgot to mention you in the names of people that have helped solve my questions here. You had some good advice.

before choosing

I searched online distro Vs Distro and found opinions (some heated), I quickly came to the conclusion that slackware was my ONLY choice.
I have become angry but this is mostly due to my laptop overheating during installation (ruining the installation) and me not knowing why the installation was failing.
