My Slackware family :)

It is cool to see how everyone came out and support me in my attempt to uphold the value of excellence that the Slackware community holds. Anyway the point of this thread is since Slackware is very command like based because of customizations and so on. I would like everyone to post Useful commands and what they do. Also when they are most applicable.

haha I guess I can start with the first few that come to my mind.

alsamixer - Good for selecting a sound card.

a better example I guess of what I mean.

adduser [-u uid [-o]] [-g group] [-G group,...]
[-d home] [-s shell] [-c comment] [-m [-k template]]
[-f inactive] [-e expire mm/dd/yy] [-p passwd] [-n] [-r] name
adduser -D [-g group] [-b base] [-s shell] [-f inactive] [-e expire mm/dd/yy]

the adduser function allows you to create multiple users. Also really good to use so that you don't have to be on the root user all the time so you can always go back and fix anything you destroy.

application
-----------

adduser IwannaSlack -d /home/users/IwannaSlack.
password:LQ_FTW

basic application without adding it to a user group
adduser IwannaSlack
password:LQ_FTW
the user has been created

but I guess you guys know what I mean. This could be really helpful to new and old users. I am presuming.

It would be wasted effort.

The slackbook and slackbasics book have a wealth of information on this.

Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Not quite sure what you mean here. You seem to be quoting the useradd program which is different from the adduser script which is a wrapper around useradd - along with setting permissions and other administration tasks required when creating a new user.

Hi,

Not really a bad idea. You should look at 'Wonder if a basic command help would help.'.

You could build a wiki with a knowledge base intent with commands and examples. Read the above LQ post.
