Question Multiple PID?

I Have a quick question.... Since I got slackware 10 I've been seeing multiple PID's for a single program for example my ps -A output for couple processes:

12805 tty3 00:00:00 overnet0.51.2
12806 tty3 00:00:00 overnet0.51.2
12807 tty3 00:00:05 overnet0.51.2

and

13426 pts/14 00:00:00 beep-media-play
13427 pts/14 00:00:00 beep-media-play
13428 pts/14 00:00:00 beep-media-play
13429 pts/14 00:00:00 beep-media-play

The programs run fine other than this gripe... anyone know why this happens?

quite often the app (parent) will spawn multiple children to do certain tasks, and will show up as multiple instances on a ps output. i'm not familiar with these in particular, but usually this is nothing to worry about.

hope this helps.

edit: you beat me to it keefaz
