New install of 13.1. Installed Pidgin 2.7.1, compiled for SSL per instructions here: http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/FAQssl but still no love. Any attempt to connect to MSN returns "Unable to authenticate: Authentication Failure."
I've looked at all of the relevant threads on this, but can't find anything beyond what I've already done.
Both of these failures are for invalid login & password. 99.95% of
the time, that means you typed your username or password incorrectly.
Double-check them and try again. You may wish to delete the accounts
from your Pidgin configuration and re-add them.
Probably because the Pidgin developers hate M$ all along and want to block M$'s content.
On second thought, isn't Pidgin DEPRECATED in GNOME? Empathy replaces it in GNOME 2.28 or newer, and Pidgin was developed by GNOME developers, so was probably abandoned.
The pidgin 2.7.0 of Slackware 13.1 (which I am using right now for my MSN account) does not have any issues connecting.
Try building your homebrew pidgin version 2.7.1 using the SlackBuild script provided with Slackware, all you need to change probably in that pidgin.SlackBuild script is the VERSION number.
