mplayerplug-in crashes in current

Hi,

there is now an mplayerplug-in (version 3.55) package in slackware64-current/extra. Has anyone else problems with mplayerplug-in?

It makes firefox crash for example for Apple Movie Trailers (go to http://www.apple.com/trailers/ and select some Quicktime movie) or Realtime audio, like http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainf...d/radio3.shtml.

(To test them, it's a good idea to move possible Helix/RealPlayer, VLC, and gxine plugins away so that it's mplayer plugin which loads.)

I also tried Eric's mplayerplug-in package for 32-bit slackware-current, and self-compiled versions with and without gtk2 toolkit for 64- and 32-bit slackware-current. All of them crash.

But the same web pages do work in slackware-12.2. The minimal change which made the pages crash also in slackware-12.2 was a glibc update from slackware-12.2's glibc-2.7 to current's glibc-2.9.

I also noted that mplayerplug-in is somewhat unstable even in 12.2 if gtk2 toolkit is used, but stable when compiled without gtk2 (configure option --enable-x). For example, if a wmp stream is running, selecting another www-page from the bookmarks to replace it, firefox crashes, but without gtk2 toolkit it doesn't crash. But this doesn't help if glibc is 2.9.

Additional testing shows that the daily development code for mplayerplug_in (instead of released 3.55) fixes Apple's Quicktime trailers but not the other problems.

mplayerplug-in is no longer been actively maintained since the author superseded it with gecko-mediaplayer, it works very well, I found this out after mplayerplug-in started crashing on me too. Install in this order.

mplayer
gnome-mplayer
gecko-mediaplayer
