mplayer dependencies

Hi
I am assuming it will be quite an effort to install mplayer by compiling from source . If I download and install from linuxpackages, can someone please give me the dpendencies also which need to be d/l ed and installed.

Thanks

well...i don't know what you can download from linuxpackages, but i allway get the source here :

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/

you'll need the sources , a codec-package, a textfont and a skin to be complete.

read the instructions on how to compile and install.

don't worry about dependencies, the configure script takes care of that.

I'm sure someone will come along with the right list of necessary libraries, or you can do it my way, the brute force way. I installed the mplayer package from linuxquestions.net, ran mplayer, and waited for it to die. It would tell me then what library I was missing and I'd go find it, often on my original slackware cds.

i know this one!!!

you'll need:

from linuxpackages:
mplayer-1.0pre6-i686-3asz.tgz
libdvdcss-1.2.8-i486-1jed.tgz
libdvdread-0.9.4-i486-1maew.tgz

and also these
lame-3.96.1.tar.gz
essential-20050115.tar.bz2

untar essential, then copy the contents of the directory into /usr/local/lib/codecs (you might need to create the codec directory...i did)

these packages will also enable gmplayer for you...

....bash it against th wall untill it finaly gives away it's dependencies... :D

but really.....compiling it from source won't hurt you more than the dep-hell.
it's a good practice, and no big deal.
