mplay: MPlayer died

Hey all,

I installed (without error messages) mplay-0.80 as a frontend to mplayer in text console. MPlayer is from CVS (about a month ago) and runs without a problem. But when I start mplay it gives the following error:
Code:
Mplayer died ... try to restart..
Mplayer died to fast consecutively .. wait for keystroke
Google or LQ didn't bring anything up. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Cheers, Leon.

Look into the system logs. Maybe, that'd point you at what really is wrong !?

well you should try it without a frontend. mplayer usually has usable error msg-s.
mplayer filename, and post whatever weird messages you get.

you can compile mplayer to use gmplayer, a built-in graphical front end that works great for me....when you configure, use this line:

Quote:
./configure --enable-gui
and that will build gmplayer into it.

I'm using mplayer without a problem. I only get the error when I want to use mplay as a frontend in text console.

Why would you need a frontend for the console?
Those are for X (usually at least :P).

Issue the gmplayer and tell us if the problem persists.

A frontend in text console (without X running) makes it a lot more practical to manage over 2500 mp3's (compared to playing mp3's from the command line with mplayer).

Cheers, Leon.

I don't have any skins installed, because when I use mplayer in X it's from command line.

Maybe I didn't make my point clear enough: I want to play mp3's from a text console. Since I have a load of mp3's I would like a friendly (text-based) interface. So mplayer's GUI isn't any help here. mplay serves as a frontend to mplayer in text console.

mplay does start up, and scans my files, but doesn't play anything. Instead it displays the error message that MPlayer died...

Cheers, Leon.

I know there's others, was just curious why mplay won't work. I've used mp3blaster before, maybe I'll revert to that.

Cheers, Leon.
