mp3 encoder ranks
using grip right now to rip one of my cds. it couldn't find the encoder, lame, so i tried each option one at a time. had oggenc and flac. oggenc seems to be running very slowly. downloading lame.
which one's do u guys use/prefer? was gonna add a poll. i didn't see mp3 encoder or cd player part of the linux awards. |
even lame seems to be encoding slowly. cd speed not crossing 3-4x, can do 12-16x. enconding at 0.5x. ez cdda encoder or whatver can do a whole cd in 10-15 mins.

I don't think the speed has anything to do with lame or another encoder, but with the ripper (grip) that is probably using cdparanoia internally to rip the cd. Cdparanoia can be compared with Exact Audio Copy on the Windows platform, and gives the best ripping results possible by rereading suspicious sectors multiple times and other techniques, so it's normal that it is slower than other (less good) rippers

You can tell Grip to disable the error corrections etc look at Config - Rip - Ripper. You can disable whatever you want there to speed it up. Be aware, however, that dodgy or scratched disks may give glitches without these options enabled.
