Moving lilo to the MBR

My laptop is set up with a fat partition with its recovery files, XP on ntfs and Slackware 10.2 on reiserfs3.

I use the XP multiboot to call lilo on the Slack partion.
I now want to move lilo to the MBR so that I don't have to struggle with dd of the Slack partion file to a file every time I change anythingand copying it to C:
How can I do this without doing a clean install?

Change lilo.conf(5). Especially read the part (of both your conf file and the man page) that says "boot=/dev/hda<maybe a `1' here>".

Then, of course, rerun lilo.

While in Slackware, log in as root, click terminal and type

lilo -b /dev/hda

Will install the "existing" Lilo into the MBR. The Lilo configuration file /etc/lolo.conf is the file that controls the booting. If your XP doesn't boot by it then you have to add these lines to make it do

other=/dev/hdax
label=My_XP

Assuming x is the partition number of your xp.
