Mouse scroll sometimes does not work in GTK3 apps

Hi,

I have this problem since very long time.
Sometimes, when I open GTK3 app (Liferea in my case) the mouse scroll does not work, i.e. Liferea has a web browser-like page for displaying feed content. And I cannot scroll such a page.

The solution I've been using so far is to minimize the application window.
Then I maximize it again and the scroll works.

I'm on Xfce + KWin.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Nothing concrete to offer, but as this has sat without comment for a few days I'll just say...

I've also seen it on occasion. Usually clicking somewhere within the app window restores the scrolling so my guess is that the gtk toolkit is losing track of where input focus is somehow. Now, whether that's the fault of gtk or the window manager I can't say.

Its only GTK3? Not GTK2, QT4 or even QT5? How about without Xfce and / or KWin?

I had an issue with similar symptoms, but for me it turned out to be a faulty mouse...

Hi,

I only noticed it happening in GTK3 application.
There's not easy way to test this without KWin/Xfce, because it's not reproducible.

As @GazL pointed out, I too saw some bug reports mentioning problems about lost focus.
I'm just not really happy trying to upgrade GTK3.

Hi,

In my case, clicking within the application window does not help.
I have to minimize and maximize again for the scroll to work.
I haven't checked if switching between windows would help too.

Hi,

I found a way to partially reproduce the problem:
1. Launch two GTK+3 applications.
2. Focus in first application.
3. Try to scroll in the second (not focused application) and the scroll does not work.

Normally, you are able to scroll in not focused application, i.e. the scroll works fine in not focused Firefox, which still uses GTK+2.

Apparently, this problem has already been reported, for example here: gtk+3: mouse wheel doesn't work (on current Wed Sep 25).

The solution is to:
Code:
$ export GDK_CORE_DEVICE_EVENTS=1
I don't know what unknown implications exporting GDK_CORE_DEVICE_EVENTS=1 might have, but I'm going to use as it seems to solve my problem.
