Well, it does take a bit of time to install from source. A friend of mine installed Gentoo on his system, which mostly installs the entire OS from source, and it took him, like, 2 days to install it. Well, this included some time farting around in the meantime, but it did take a while. Slackware has a nice, simple, fast package management system. Check out the manpages for `installpkg,` `upgradepkg,` `pkgtool,` `removepackage,` and especially `makepackage.`

considerring that it's an entire bloody OS installing from source, i'm not surprised it took so long lol. what i mean though is installing small programs and the like from source. i've installed a few programs now (messy to say the least ) and fell inlove with installing from source. pkgtools now scare me because i don't understand how they function to well yet.
