Mouse Issues 2.6.18.3

Hey all,

Running Pentium 3 Coppermine with standard PS/2 Mouse
Xorg.config mouse options are set to
Protocol = "auto"
Device = "/dev/mouse"
(dont have the actuall xorg.config file offhand, could get it if needed)
in the 2.6.18.3 kernel, /dev/mouse points to /input/mice
(have already tried pointing it to /dev/psaux)
gpm is usual set to -m /dev/mouse -t imps2

The mouse works fine under the origional 2.4.33.3 kernel.
the mouse is compiled in as a module, and /dev/mouse points to /dev/psaux (in the 2.4.x kernel)
everything is good and dandy. GPM works, and therefore X works

When i compiled the 2.6.18.3 kernel all of a sudden GPM no longer worked.
I have diagnosed it to a driver issue.

in the 2.6.18.3 kernel, i ran cat /dev/input/mice and /dev/psaux
neither showed input.

i am unsure of how to fix this.
i've been recompiling the kernel with more and more modules related to the mouse, but i can't find anything that looks related to the problem anymore.
(Basicaly i'm just bloating my kernel...)

would anyone know offhand why none of the mouse drivers would be showing any input in a 2.6.X kernel?

if not, i can get the (kernel) .config and the xorg.config files up here.

thanks all.

you must modprobe the psaux module. Actually I don't remember the exact name of the module, but you can try
Code:
find /lib/modules/$(uname -r) | grep ps
and then just modeprobe it

Code:
modprobe psmouse
thats right

aarg such a simple solution. that bugs me. I would have never guessed that the kernel wouldnt automatically load psmouse.

anyone know why not? It would seem that just like any other connected device, the kernel would recognize a mouse and load psmouse. why doesnt it?

i believe i can fix the issue by adding modprobe psmouse to the rc.gpm script. i havent rebooted and tried it yet.
anyone know how to get the kernel to automaically load it?

thanks

Actually, is better if you load it in rc.modules.

I recompiled my kernel with mouse support embeded
