mouse configuration

I probably messt up or misconfigured my mouse at the install process and now I can't use my middle (scroll) button. I have a HP PS2 3 buttons mouse, and it gets wreally frustrating sometimes that I can't scroll webpages and other stuff with the 3rd buton. How should I fix that?
nd BTW I installed the 2.4 kernel but I wreally get used to 2.6.x kernel using Mandriva, could someone tell me the stepps in switching for a newer version of the kernel...?

Try editing your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and see if you have this line under Section "InputDevice"

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

This is assuming that you have a 3 button mouse. Here is a sample of how that section looks like:
