Mouse..?

Kinda new on linux, or.. very new, about 1 hour acctually.
well, got 2 problems with slack 10.0

1.
During the installation, slack asked me if i had a ps2 mouse, i do, so i said YES.
BUT, in when i get in to the kde my mouse refuses to move. so, how can i reinstall or add my mouse so that i can use it?

2.
My fan hyperventilates when i boot my computer, its supposed to. but its also supposed to slow down to 1-4% of its capability as soon as the "WindowsXp" sign appears, and it does that fine also, with WinXP.
BUT with slack, when i get passed the LILO, when its supposed to slow down.. it just keeps going on 100%, and does not slow down even when the system is fully booted. what to do?

one more thing, since im a blonde on linux, i'd rather see you take it SLOW and over-explained, than giving me answers i cant understand

thanks!

I don't know about the fan part, but for the mouse boot up and log in as root, stay at the command prompt and do not startx into kde. type "xorgconfig" without the quotes and answer the questions. I suggest you pick auto for the mouse and let xorg decide for you. It helps to know your monitors horizontal and vertical sync rates, look it up on the web at your monitor manufacturer's web site. When it asks to write the file to /etc/X11 say yes, then startx. See if that helps for the mouse part.
Welcome aboard!

Welcome to Slackware Chippen

1.
You will probably need to edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf . This is where all the details about mouse, keyboard, video card etc are kept. Try posting some details about your mouse (make, model) and someone with something similar will probably be able to help you out. This is the mouse section of my xorg.conf (but unless your mouse is similar to mine it may not work, if you want to try this remember that <CTRL>+<ALT>+<BACKSPACE> will get you back to a text console) :
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
2.
As for the fan, the only thing I can think of is trying a kernel with ACPI support. There is one included with Slack called bareacpi.i but installing that may not be the easiest thing to do after a couple of hours on linux . If no other solutions come up and you want to have a go someone here will be able to help. In the mean time you could just crank your music up so you can't hear the fan, at least you know the system won't be overheating (we hope).
