Mount Devices as user other than root

I cannot mount my other hard drives in a user other than root.
I went in to /etc/fstab and changed the paramatersfor the floppy and cdrom but cannot access /hdb1 in nonroot user.

can anyone suggest a solution. thanks -jimi

Code:
/dev/cdrom   /media/cd   iso9660   ro,user,noauto,unhide   0 0
The fstab above works for me, although you can also go simpler; for my usb drives I just have:
Code:
/dev/sda1  /media/usb   vfat   rw,user  0 0
The other thing to be aware is how you try to mount. As a user, you should only use the path of the mount point:
Code:
$ mount /media/usb
NOT
Code:
$ mount /dev/sda1 /media/usb
If you're still having problems, post your fstab. And one last thought. You say you can't mount /hdb1, so I assume that /hdb1 is a directory and you're trying to mount /dev/hdb1 to it. If that's not the case, then that's the problem.

Before modifying your fstab, try adding your user account to the sys and disk groups and see if that changes anything.
