Question most easy way to handle intel/nvidia optimus

Hi,

soon I will install Slackware on a notebook which has nvidia/intel grafik pair. (t430s)
I do not want to disable the nvida card since I still have the hope to find some time to do some stuff that needs the nvida card.

I wonder what the most simple way to handle the nvidia/intel gfx pair is.
Is it enough to install nvidia binary drivers and they will use the intel per default?
or is bumblebeed what I have to use?

I am absolute not up to date with this topic,
I have no other requirements than that this works as simple as possible, since time restrictions are currently my main issue.
if that means I have to restart X to switch between nvida-intel it's fine for me.

so if there are any user with nvidia optimus installation experience, field reports are very appreciated

You might be able to get it working with nouveau.

this page, which I know, describes multiple possibilities, some of them maybe not even the newest/latest info.
and some options are fare away from simple (rebuilding mesa for example?)

let me repeat my question:
what is the most simple way to have the options to use either nvidia or intel, it does not matter if I need to restart X for this.

let me add this info: my main issue is time, I ca either use some ubuntu, or rather openSUSE, install and be able to focus on the important work after about ~3 hours, or install Slackware and have the experience that I have to invest a whole weekend or more to get things up and running somehow.
for the upcoming task I have not motivation to go the later path, I simply do not have the time for this at the moment.
if Slackware is therefore no option since there is no simple path to run optimus, than it is good to know upfront.

Simply by editing X.org configuration:

.

The only thing I can suggest is use the Nvidia driver rather than Nouveau. Don't get me wrong, if you're on -Current and updating things often, then Nvidia driver isn't practical. It's viable but it's more work. Plus the Nvidia driver's power management is superior to Nouveau's.

Set up the Intel driver as best you can, and let Optirun/Bumblebee handle everything that needs the full 3D capabilities from the GeForce chipset, and only use it if you need it.

One suggestion, create custom desktop launchers edited to execute optirun rather than dip into a terminal each time you want to execute something. Though I am curious, if you open a terminal with optirun, will any application opened by said terminal require another optirun instance?

I'm busy building up (ie installing from scratch) 14.2 64 bit on my brand spanking new laptop. I'll expect I'll be using the advice given here : http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:har...nvidia_optimus

Looks like a no-brainer. :-)

Of course, I could be totally mistaken.

maybe it is a matter of formatting, but feels more understandable for me reading it here:
