Modprobe of agpgart returns errors, not sure what to do?

I'm trying to isntall nvidia drivers by a thread created by cwilson.

When I go to modprobe agpgart, which is needed to use the driver, I get the following error

Code:
root@ladytron:~# modprobe agpgart
/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: init_module: Invalid argument
/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz failed
/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: insmod agpgart failed
For some reason, if I were to go thru dmesg, it doesn't output any info about an messages about agpgart, but when I boot up, I do see an error.

When I do a slocate on agpgart, I do show that it is under /lib/modules

Code:
root@ladytron:~# slocate agpgart
/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz
/usr/src/linux-2.4.31/drivers/char/agp/agpgart_be.c
/usr/src/linux-2.4.31/drivers/char/agp/agpgart_fe.c
/usr/src/linux-2.4.31/include/linux/agpgart.h
/usr/include/linux/agpgart.h
So, I'm not to sure what to do to get this to work correctly.

thanks

you could try compiling your kernel and select agpgart as built-in, not as modules.

I've have tried about 2 years ago to upgrade a 2.4 kernel to a 2.6 kernel, but it didn't work, so this is an area that I'm not very experienced in.

How hard would it be to do this?

thanks
