Modem not working after kernel recompile

I just recompiled the kernel on my girlfriends machine, and now when she tries to dial in, kppp says cannot open modem. I can't really diagnose the problem, since I did this all remotely, and I won't be able to get to her computer until later this week. I added module support for PPP and async serial ports when using menuconfig. I thought that was all I would need to add. Also, the modem is a winmodem, and its PCI. I don't remember whether I used the Conexant HCF or HSF dirver, but she still has the file for that. Do I maybe need to reinstall the driver? Do I possibly need to add module support for sync tty ports? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I also gave her instructions on how to recompile the kernel, which she's already followed successfully, so having to recompile the kernel isn't a problem. Thanks for the help.

You need to reinstall the driver. Make sure that the module will still work with the kernel you compiled.

Alright sounds good. I had her try booting up into the old kernel, which was the bare.i kernel, and it foudn the modem and started dialing, but then it said pppd process died or something like. I'll try to get her to reinstall the driver. Thanks for the help.

I got it working after I walked her through uninstalling the old driver and reinstalling the new one. Thanks for the help.
