Modem

I connect to the Internet (Broadband) using an ADSL modem. Its connected to the system using the USB interface.I use Slackware 10.2.I tried using netconfig and entered the details provided by my ISP but I am unable to access the net.The command ip a just provides the loopback information. Anyway to get connected ?

Hmm last time I heard about this matter was when my friend got adsl..well he never managed to get it working through USB, only through the ordinary ethernet RJ-45. If you can, try connecting to the ethernet port since that's probably easier..

I've often though those ADSL USB modems were similar to the dial-up winmodems because they are not self contained and require special software. So geeting it to work in Linux may be non-trivial.

However is b0uncer suggesting that you can connect it as a device and then map a eth0 or eth1 device onto it? I say map in the loosest sense of the word.

Other than that it's a question of checking the model number of the modem and googling it under linux so see if somebody else has solved the problem.

It worked out of the box in ubuntu.. In RH I had to use netconfig then it starts working. In RH when I give ip a It shows eth0 and the details.. Its recongnized as eth0 only.Mine is a BEETEL 220BX ADSL+Modem..
