missing packages (TCP /IP)?
Hello,
A couple of weeks ago I installed slackware 10.2. I didn't have internet connection then, so I might not have installed certain
packages (responsible for networking). I am not sure. Now I am connected to the internet (at least on other systems I have - fedora core and winxp. On slackware internet doesn't work. I ran
netconfig and it says "seems you do not have TCP/IP installed"
How can I install it from the net, (temporarily I do not have installation cds)
thank you

To install anything from the net, you must have the tcpip and other network related packages installed. You have a bit of a chicken & egg problem here.
If this is a multi-boot computer the best you can do is boot into the other OS, get connected, download the Slackware 10.2 CD1 ISO image, make sure it is downloaded to a partition where Slackware can find it after you reboot.
Then after rebooting back into Slackware, run "mount -o loop slackware-10.2-install-d1.iso /mnt/cdrom" and install the packages you need from the /mnt/cdrom/slackware/ directory.

Thanks,
Actually, I meant something like booting into fedora, downloading a package,
saving it on slackware, booting slackware etc.
is it possible? something like RPMs
if not I will have to download cd1,
thanks

Hi,
Eric, gave you good advice! Slackware would be aware of the fedora downloaded iso as long as the partition is on the same machine. Just mount it as suggested.
The download of the iso cd1 will contain the needed packages that you could install using pkgtool to install. After the mount just cd to the desired directory to install the package. The tcp/ip package will be in the /n diskset (/slackware/n) of the mount point. You would then cli the pkgtool command as root.

Thanks Eric
I downloaded every package from the /n directory and installed them with installpkg.
The problem is I still get the same error during netconfig (seems you don't have tcp/ip
installed). So the problem probably lies somewhere else. (Btw, what architecture is 486? i386 is for 32bit x86_64 for 64 bit processors, what about 486?)
My guess is that Slackware doesn't recognises my ethernet card:
The following is part of my dmesg:
Code:

Can you help me on this one?

Try to see if it's the correct module for your card using lspci and some web search.
After that, try to init it using ifconfig.
