Missing gd.h

I'm trying to install the perl GD module. Using CPAN I 'install GD the 'make' process, I'm asked where libgd resides and I answer /usr/lib.
When the make executes, I get an error "gd.h: no such file or directory"

A google search turned up nothing helpful yet. (well, there was a suggest to exclude libgd but it was for some other package. I assume that libgd is crutial to GD)

Do you have gd installed? Not sure what the perl module does, but I suspect it requires an installion of gd itself. I installed gd-2.0.21 a while back from source, and stuck the libs in /usr/local/lib/, but anyway, do a "locate libgd.so" and see what you find. Slackware 9.1 doesn't come with gd, btw, if that's your distro.

I have libgdk.so but not libgd ( and lots of other libgd* files). Guess that doesn't cut it, eh?

Can you steer me towards a download site?

And no, gdk is not the same as gd.
