Missing C compiler in Slack-current

I installed Slack 10 from a cd I got from Linux Format magazine, when I installed it I had no C compiler. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just from where I got the distro? Thanks to all for any help and workarounds!

Did you select the appropriate installation packages?
Try mounting the disk, heading into /mnt/cdrom/slackware/g
I think that's where the compiler packs should be, otherwise look in other subdirectories of slackware/

Yes the cd does have GCC on it , but you cannot compile it because u do not have a compiler on the system!

Installpkg, pkgtool, removepkg, explodepkg and makepkg should be part of any Slackware installation!
Basically you don't have to install any Slack packages from source. That's why it's Slack package Also pkgtool is a script so it is interpreted, not compiled. It's a text file and is executed as a text file by the shell:
"less /sbin/pkgtool" to see what I'm talking about.

Make is a separate package. You must install it first. It's in the /d directory of packages, where gcc and binutils are.

You may want to try swaret. Installing a package with swaret is as easy as typing "swaret --install make" It will find it if it exists and will ask you if you want to install it. It can search for libraries, and will save you a lot of time. It's also very good for updates as long as you control what it's doing.
