mirrors slow to update?

I am using ftp://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/...are64-current/ in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors. I have noticed that there were some package upgrades a couple days ago but that these are not in ChangeLog.txt for this mirror. I have checked a few other mirrors and noticed that some of them have a more recent ChangeLog.txt and some don't. My question is how long does it normally take for a mirror to be fully up to date? Shouldn't the administrator of the mirror run a daily cron job or something that checks ChangeLog.txt on the master and then if there's a change get those updates?

You could always make your own mirror, if you think these "third party" admins are too slow.

Go ahead.

Then you'll know what is what, when is when, and why is why.

Or wait 2-3 days for the mirrors to catch up.

I don't really want to make my own mirror. I was just wondering if this kind of delay is common?

Some mirrors do seem to sync later rather than sooner. I can recall a time when the Easynews mirror did not update for months. Usually there's a link ...somewhere... that has an email address for the webmaster/maintainer of the site. You never know, they may only sync (bi)weekly or at some other interval, or the admin may think everything is working well when it's not. A friendly message is sometimes all that's needed.

For your chosen mirror it's located here ftp://carroll.cac.psu.edu/welcome.msg
That mirror appears incomplete/broken/still in progress. A quick spot check showed everything things missing from the March 01, 2010 updates. The changelog has not been updated yet either. Some packages are just not there at all (a/aaa_elflibs-13.013-x86_64-3.txz) the sources are missing for quite a few of the updated packages as well.

I think you always have the possibility to update packages by yourself simply by downloading them (look for the security advisor link in Slackware home page) and "upgradepkg *.t?z". Or wait some days and most of the mirrors will be updated.

Thanks for the responses guys. I do subscribe to the Slackware security mailing list so that's how I first learned there were updates. I don't really want to manually install the packages as I am quite lazy and like to do things automatically whenever possible (in this case using slackpkg). I have been using this mirror because it is reasonably fast for me. I'm not too worried about this mirror being synchronized. I'm sure it will happen eventually. I was just curious if anyone else had experienced similar problems with any of the mirrors.

I'm coming to this thread a little late, but I noticed the same thing about Penn State's mirror. So, I tried a bunch of other mirrors and found that all the .edu mirrors hadn't synced. I found slackware.mirrors.tds.net/pub/slackware/slackware64-13.0/patches/ to be up to date.

Regards,
