Minimal slackware installation..

Just so you know you dont have to make your answers super simple... Im not a complete newb to linux, I have been running slackware on my firewall box for almost 3 years now. I have dabbeled with gentoo and a couple other distros. Im not an expert by any means but I have a more than working knowledge of linux in general.

Anyhow, my question is this; Is there a way to script the slack intstallation program to only do a minimal install of slack? I dont want any of the packages other than what linux needs to run. Pretty much all I want preinstalled is a cron daemon of some kind, syslog, gcc, a text editor, and the basic hardware support stuff to enable plug and play, etc.

I see the tag files, but I am unclear on how to make those do what I want it to do. Is there any premade "base" install tag files on the net that I can download to save myself the hassle? Or are tag files not the way to do this at all?

Vector linux- I'm not sure if this is as basic as you want...
google for slack based linux
check out the slackware site...

um, I would suggest jed for the text editor- I like it alot.
I think you should be able to work it out from selecting packages. - remove anything that looks like "kde" "gnome" etc, install, see if it works, then see if you can remove anything else.

have fun! and Welcome to LQ!
