Microphone don't work on Macbook 5,2.

Hi,
I'm using Slackware 14.0 x86_64(not current) on a Macbook 5,2 from 2009. (http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...dia-specs.html )
Although the audio works well, the microphone do not work, at least when I try to use skype.

Code:
$ arecord -l

Also, Phonoton (KDE) lists HDA nvidia ALC889A Analog and HDA nvidia ALC889A Analog (Default Audio Device) as the microphone tool. However, Default audio device is unavailable.

So what should I do?

HI according to your image the last control says mic

can you use the right arrow to get to it and then press up arrow a number of times
or down arrow a number of times and tell us what other options you get

you may get a front mic so if mic was in front hole
your main issue may resolve

2) when you do a mic to work be aware of the following

mic boost 100% highly to lead to distortion ---suggest you zero

3) multiple captures----3 of them suggests you may have 3 inputs
but my eyesight can not spot em

my guess is from looking at your link ports and connectivity TAB

inbuilt mic somewhere probably near screen = input 1
optical =spdif = input 2
sound out = can be converted to in = input 3
(actually on my normal non-mac tower its my line in that can be converted to caputure device)

Can you confirm pls?

4) you also have a digital mic setting but its de-active

arrow to it....press the space bar to activate, numbers should show up as read
then page up to raise volume to about 80

b) I would lower all analog mic controls to 80 but if skype starts working you can zero them

good luck

Microphone: 1 (Internal) Sound In: 1
Details: Internal omnidirectional microphone. Optical digital audio in.

I thought that I already replied but anyway.

I can't activate the 3 mic options and when I use the up and down arrows, only ''mic'' changes to ''cd'' and ''Line''.

Sorry, I did not understand this part...

I can't activate the digital but I can change its value with the arrows up and down...

Well I was confused on why you had 3 caputures showing up in your image.
It now appears, altho you will need to confirm that your mixer shows all caputures all at once when
only ONE can be set at a time.

2) Back to digital.

Do you have a S/PDIF hole?

3) try a non-skype sound test with various volumes set by you

Code:
arecord -d 5 -f cd test.wav

aplay test.wav
Before doing your first test 100 % the digital

now test with all volumes at 100% but 0% boost

report if you hear anything

assuming you can

keep all analogs activated but 0% all of them
keep 100% digital and retest
report if anything heard
----if nothing heard this digital may well be your S/pdif

b) I have good results with a volume set at 80% for digital
0% for analog
analog is activated

good luck
