About time!

D1ver 02-04-2013 04:56 PM

These results of these polls sure have a Slackware skew about them hehe.. Congrats Slackers ;)

brianL 02-04-2013 05:03 PM

All those threats to break peoples' legs paid off...oops! forget I said that. ;)

mlangdn 02-04-2013 05:20 PM

Well done Slackers!

sycamorex 02-04-2013 05:48 PM

Damn it, now the argument that the most popular one does not automatically amount to being the best one goes out of the window:)

Congratulations!!!

In celebration I upgraded my P4 game server to Slackware 14.0! Woot!

hitest 02-04-2013 07:22 PM

Awesomeness! :)

The tribe has spoken.

Like slackers need a poll for this revelation? :)

Kallaste 02-06-2013 08:46 PM

And a close second place in the Server Distribution of the Year category! How awesome would it have been to have taken both of those? I wish I had voted in that poll. But since I have no servers it would not have been fair. :|

Fantastic

I voted Slackware for desktop because it already comes ready with a bunch of nice software packages. Also less buggy then Fedora. It might be more a pain to setup because there is no yum /apt-get but once its set up its set up and u can forget about it.

no automatic shit popping up either like most the commercial distros.

Centos is another nice one but it doesn't come with all the nice packages slackware does and hence more a pain to setup in so many ways for a general use (desktop) system. Once u have the right hardware setup Slackware it is.

Also I like the KDE Desktop to some extent. I am kinda in a battle between KDE, XFCE and Gnome. I chose KDE for the competition so that they can improve the widgets. But honestly I really like XFCE as well due to its stability/simplicity and low on rescources. I also like Gnome 3 for its graphical effects (when using Fedora). However, it needs a LOT of work. Meanwhile LXDE is popping up too.

Wow Linux is about of choice but all this choice is confusing and feeling chaotic to me. I hope I don't end up as a Mac user in the end...

That is the first time I know of that it has come first. It certainly shows that Slackware popularity is increasing and Ubuntu popularity is decreasing.

Admittedly, there is a pro-Slackware bias to the poll in that this is the main Slackware forum. However, it came second last year, so it has gone up for sure.

Thought I'd just spread the gospel. Even if for some, it's like inviting cardinal Ratzinger to a Marilyn Manson hellfest. :D
