Media playback issues with Willys Cinnamon SlackBuild
This is all being done on a separate identical to my daily driver test rig.
So, first things first. This was my (un)install order;
1. Fresh clean install of Slackware-current, full install nothing left out.
2. Set it up, logged into KDE and set up wicd and slackpkg, extract csb-development.zip in home directory.
(I only use wicd temporarily and uninstall it after Cinnamon is up and running.)
3. Dropped to runlevel 3
4. # slackpkg remove kde
5. cd to csb directory, run build-cinnamon.sh
Cinnamon builds and installs fine, and I login and start the Cinnamon desktop from the shell.
I remove a few more things like Firefox & Thunderbird, nothing media related.
Now when I try to play any type of video file, none of the media players will play them. The media player will open but no video and no audio, then the media player will not close.
I installed Alien BOBs VLC package (that I prefer) and it will play it, but once it gets to the end of the file or I try to close VLC the entire system hangs and I have to do a hard reset.
I have not tried it yet while leaving KDE installed, I don't really want KDE, but that is the only thing that I could think that is creating this issue, is that something from KDE is needed.
Any ideas are very appreciated.......
I don't really want to go through another fresh install, but I guess that if I have to just to see if it is something from KDE I suppose that I'll have to.
i haven't tried the latest build since PulseAudio got included in -current, but i don't think it requires KDE libraries
just wondering, did you download the latest development branch?
I downloaded csb-development on 01-21-2016. I think that I had this issue before PA. I have just gotten back around to trying to build it.
I just tried to install it on a fresh Slackware install with KDE still in, but I used the packages that I built from when I removed KDE. So I am close to finished rebuilding it from a clean Slackware-current install, and I'm building inside KDE to see if that makes any difference.
I would grab an error log if I knew which one and where to grab it from.
Still no difference. I did a fresh full -current (update 01-17-2016) install, built csb-development (01-21-2016) inside KDE and installed VLC.
Once I get to the end of the file or I try to close VLC, VLC almost closes but hangs the system with a faint image on the desktop and I have to do a hard reboot.
No, the video plays fine. Only when I try to close the media player or when it comes to the end of the file does it hang.
I also have a pc that is running Linux Mint 17.3, Cinnamon 2.8.6, kernel 4.4 and VLC 2.1.6 video playback is normal.
*Edit
Video & audio will play through VLC (still hangs at the end or upon close), nothing plays through the other media players. So it could be similar to the bug you linked to.

I installed Willys csb on a fresh full install of -current (01-17-2016) as I mentioned in post #4 and didn't remove anything, still the issue persists.
I will read the article you linked to, hopefully I can figure something out from it. Thanks.

I have upgraded libva to 1.6.2 (SBo) and installed libvdpau-va-gl 0.3.4 (SBo), now I am getting:

and the results are the same, when VLC gets to the end of the file or I try to close it, VLC hangs the system and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and restart X.
Also like I mentioned, I can use the same VLC player in KDE (before updating libva & installing libvdpau-va-gl) and it worked just as it is supposed to.
Something is still missing, there are 2 options IMHO , or you build VLC by yourself so it relinks things on what you have installed or you probably should install KDE.
I think that installing KDE doesn not hurt at all, this will not make you use KDE but it will give you the correct deps to run the VLC you want. It is just a guess, but worth trying it IMHO.

Sorry, I updated my last post before I seen your reply.
I did a complete full reinstall, and KDE is installed. I removed nothing and built CSB inside KDE and installed VLC. I can use VLC in KDE and it works normally, only when I switch to Cinnamon does it hang the system.
I will do a complete fresh install, build CSB, and then build VLC from source. It's worth a shot I guess.
* Come to think about it, it might not help that much since I am having issues with all the media players, not just VLC. But I am going to try just the same.
Well, since Willy has upgraded libgusb (0.2.8) and downgraded colord (1.2.12), Xine and KPlayer are working normal. Which is funny because Mplayer is not and neither is AlienBobs VLC. But, a step in the right direction.
The two common reoccurring errors that I can see are:
