mceusb with lirc in Slackware 13.37
I wrote this post a few years ago when I was running my HTPC with Slackware 12.2. Several years later and my hardware is exactly the same but the same process is not working for me when I try with Slackware 13.37.
I have been using Arch x86_64 Linux for about a year, but I'm experimenting with Slackware again. With Arch recently, I did not install lirc through the package manager, because lirc is in the kernel nowadays. Does this also apply for Slackware now? I've actually got both Arch and Slackware installed at the moment, and I just use grub to switch between the two. I have exactly the same lircd.conf and .lircrc files on both, and my remote is working in Arch right now.
I've tried this rc.lircd file from Woodsman but it seems I have to have lirc installed (I've used this one from Slackbuilds).
Can I request some help getting my mceusb remote working in Slackware 13.37.

I gave up on this but have come back to it and I'm determined to get it working!
I've tried
Quote:
$ irrecord --force -d /dev/lirc0 /home/david/logitech_lirc.conf
|
and after madly pushing buttons and seeing the red light on my ir-receiver work, I get
Quote:
irrecord: no data for 10 secs, aborting
irrecord: gap not found, can't continue
|
Here is some output from other commands.
Quote:
lsmod | grep mceusb
mceusb 10383 0
ir_core 13010 13 rc_rc6_mce,mceusb,rc_winfast,ir_lirc_codec,ir_sony_decoder,ir_jvc_decoder,ir_rc6_decoder,ir_rc5_deco der,cx88xx,ir_nec_decoder,ir_common

Quote:
lsmod | grep lirc
ir_lirc_codec 3623 0
lirc_dev 8087 1 ir_lirc_codec
ir_core 13010 13 rc_rc6_mce,mceusb,rc_winfast,ir_lirc_codec,ir_sony_decoder,ir_jvc_decoder,ir_rc6_decoder,ir_rc5_deco der,cx88xx,ir_nec_decoder,ir_common

Woodsman says in this post you should see
Code:
lirc_dev
lirc_mceusb
Is that still accurate?

One other thing I have noticed is that in /sys/class/rc/rc0/ I have no lirc* files, but instead I have /sys/class/rc/rc1/lirc0.
OK, I now can get hex codes from key-presses using irw because I have this line in my /etc/rc.d/rc.local
# Start lirc
/etc/rc.d/rc.lircd start
echo none +lirc > /sys/class/rc/rc1/protocols
