MC: C-t brings up code page dialogue. Arrow keys on keypad disabled.

I just installed Slack 13.0. No glitches in the installation.
Couple of glitches in Midnight Command tho:

1)The arrow keys on my standalone usb keypad do not work
on MC (they appear to work on other X applications). but don't
work on mutt either. Although I have scant need for arrow keys
there.
I use my keypad on the left, with a trackball on the right, so
really value its utility.

2)And worse: When I press C-t (tag) in Midnight Commander, I get
a dialogue (and it appears to be a MC dialogue, not X, or 'global')
about "Choose codepage" and regardless or whether I make a choice
or not it always presents itself, crippling an essential feature of
MC.

Any help at all would be appreciated. MC is my most used linux
app. I am currently using the installed MC (not compiled). And
is run from konsole.
thanks
tim

about n. 2): use "Ins" key instead...the developers changed the shortcut.
I've no ideas about your first question.
Sorry

Thanks michelino. I can live with that.

It is beginning to look like the keypad arrow keys don't work in anything launched from konsole.
Bash, mutt etc..

I can confirm that konsole is not responding to any of my keypad
arrow keys. Terminal 0.4.0 will read the keypad arrow keys.
