mc and gpm fraud via ssh (remote acces lockup report - resolved)

I couldn't help but wonder:

I login via ssh to the server as i allways did, but for some time now I just can't use mc (midnight commander) any more?

As soon as I fire up mc, it locks my session: I have to login again in parallel and to 'killall' the mc 'in koma'. After that, i can use both sessions (one for killing :-( if the need arises for... )...

I soon found out that when I fire up mc with :
Code:

mc -x
it is somehow able to run (won't lockup).
???

I also found out that adding:
Code:

mc -xa
is pleasing to the eye if the ncurses enconing is 'funny'. :D

However I kept continuing to fireup the Midnight commander without any of said options from time to time -> out of a human nature to be prone to errors.

Only recently when it occured to me to try strace on mc, i found out that it hangs over a gpm call (gpm is that mouse controll thingy...).

As soon as I shut down gpm (and disabled the rc.gpm so it won't autostart...) mc went 'to normal'

So, how about You, fellow slackers, what's Your mileage regarding this?

The Slackware version in question is 11.0 and the client side OS-es are many (currently I'm writing this from a sidux (Debian+Sid+sidux) system)

best regards.

Hi,

I just checked a ssh with Slackware 12.1 & MC. No problem. The '/etc/rc.d/rc.gpm' is enabled and the mouse functioned within MC without a hitch. I will have to start some older equipment to test Slackware 11, I've got some TP760el/xl laptops with 11 on them. I'll get back too you if there is a problem. I don't remember ever having a issue with MC & gpm on those machines. I use 'MC' and want my gpm.

This is wery probably, as I used Slackware for that server for few years and only recently i found it misbeheaving
:-(
So my guess is that either the thing has 'flavour issues' among distros or I found a option that breaks the 'magic'?

I use
Code:

ssh -Y <user>@<host>
for access to my kmail and while donig so I 'cut my feet off' when I pay a wisit to mc.
???

Is this reproducible? Or did I find somwhere 'that one special spice' ("...play enough and eventualy you will break it...") that will be left undocumented in the wild :-/

Anyhow, I just felt like I report it...
