Maximum number of folders in slackware

Hey all,

I am just wondering what the maximum number of folders are in slack as I am trying to make new folders through samba on a Xp machine but it says access denied but all the permissions are set properly and nothing has changed to make an error like this occur. I have about 30000 folders andI try to make a new folder and it just won't work.

I think that would be limited by the filesystem and not by Slackware.

You should if possible, use several subdirectories, for example, split them inside directories with the beggining letter, like all subdirs that start with a, put them under a/, b in b/, etc. That would also improve speed when reading the directory list.
