MATE 1.8 Packages for Slackware{64}-14.1
Hi all,
I have just finished uploading MATE 1.8 binary packages for Slackware{64}-14.1 to the primary repository. This new version is built on top of Slackware{64}-14.1.
Feel free to try this new version and don't forget to read the documentation for KNOWN ISSUES, MATE-1.8-CHANGES, and also UPGRADE if you are upgrading from MATE 1.6.
For those prefer to compile it from source, please head to our github repository and use the 14.1-mate-1.8 branch for following stable updates for MATE 1.8. Please read the GIT_BRANCHES for more information about branches in the repository.
We welcome your feedback on this project on this thread, via our email (mateslackbuilds@gmail.com), or via #msb channel on freenode.
Enjoy MATE 1.8

since current is not so far different from -stable, then yes, it's possible to install it on current

Big thanks to Willy - he did all the hard work on the MSB 1.8 update over the past several months. Thanks, Willy!

Hi willysr,
I'm running 32 bit -current. Is there a 32 bit version of Mate 1.8?

A small question. I'm finishing up an install of Slackware 14.1 32 bit in Virtualbox. Should I install all security updates to the 14.1 vm before I start the Mate 1.8 installation?

It's recommended to install all security patches, even though MATE does not required you to do so
The only bug fix that is needed is shadow package which fixed the gksu dialog problem
However, FYI, MATE was built on top of Slackware 14.1 with the latest security updates at the time it was built and we update the VM with all updates coming into 14.1
