MATE 1.8 and session handling
Hi,
I'm currently testing MATE 1.8 (Willy's and Chess' prebuilt binaries from their repo) in two virtual machines on 32-bit and 64-bit Slackware 14.1, and there's a small detail that's bothering me. I only have the System > Logout option. Meaning the Shutdown and Reboot options are gone. This happens in all possible setups:
I didn't have this problem with MATE 1.6, so this seems to be a regression with MATE 1.8. Anyone here experiencing a similar behavior ? Any ideas for a workaround ? |

Good day,
I am also using a lot of slackware 14.1 computers, both 64 and 32 bit with Mate-1.8 and have no such problems. However I've built binaries myself using scripts available in msb repo. There is also a posibility, that you forgot to add your user to power group. Sometimes happens for me too :) |

When I close the session, I only get a reduced logout dialog, as you can see in the screenshot.
I just wanted to be on the safe side, so I tried not only both 32-bit and 64-bit MATE with your prebuilt binaries, but also a third VM with MATE 1.8 built from source. All with the same result. My user (kikinovak) has all the secondary groups mentioned in adduser, so he is also member of the 'power' group. Now I'm clueless. |
maybe you have mate-polkit and stock gnome-polkit both started

Other than MATE packages (either using prebuilt packages or compiling from source), what other packages you installed?
The MATE binary packages are installed on top of clean Slackware VM, so no other packages except for official packages from Slackware |

Later.
OK, I did a fresh Slackware + MATE installation from scratch. Everything now works as expected, and my Logoff and Shutdown buttons are all there. I don't know what exactly went wrong, but anyway, I'll mark this as solved. Thanks everybody for all your suggestions. Niki |
