man slackpkg - typos
Hi all,
I know it's not really important and does not affect Slackware performance but still, I think typos should be corrected. Quote:

Wouldn't you report it to
piterpk AT terra.com.br? slackpkg is not a slackware package. |

You're welcome.

Hehe, I guess you saw these typos while translating slackpkg's man pages in Polish ;)
Just wondering: maybe we should internationalize slackpkg itself in the future... Back to the topic, maybe you could register on sourceforge.net if not already done, then post a patch on sourceforge.net here (click on Create Ticket). I suggest that because Sébastien Ballet already did that to propose a fix. The ticket remained open for some time but the patch was eventually applied by Patrick Volkerding, as you can see in the Changelog for Slackware-current |

slackpkg was installed by default in my "Full Install" of Slackware. I did not add it in later on. What's an example of something that's a "Slackware package", then? |
I guess he means not a system package written and/or maintained by Pat. The Pkgtools are written and maintained by Pat himself, Slackpkg is not.
P.S. Slackpkg, whilst very nice, is not an essential, you could run Slackware without it. The same is not true without Pkgtools, the install scripts or anything else that Pat maintains. If you took them away it is not really Slackware anymore. |
Thanks guys for the responses/suggestions. I have emailed Piter.

"You need only to type..." v "You only need to type..."
I'm the victim of a 1970's English comprehensive education so I'm not really in a position to advise on correctness, but the first one of those feels more natural to me. The rest of your corrections I agree with. |

A quick google search suggests that the best approach is to put the 'only' as close as you can to the phrase you're trying to limit: If that is true then: "You need only to type blah", is more focused than "You only need to type", but "You need to type only...." is better than both, though in this context it doesn't look like it changes the meaning of the sentence whichever way you order it. English is a stupid language. |
