Making Ndiswrapper Permanent

I managed to get ndiswrapper working but when I reboot I lose all my settings. I tried putting modeprobe ndiswrapper, ifconfig wlan0 up, iwconfig wlan0 essid "", dhcpcd wlan0 (in that order) in /etc/rc.d/rc.local but it takes almost five minutes and doesn't seem to be doing anything. It does display wlan0 information when I type dmesg. It doesn't associate with my network however and to get it working I still have to type "iwconfig wlan0 essid "myessid" followed by "dhcpcd wlan0".

Is there anyway I can edit one file a make sure it loads ndiswrapper, associates with my network, and obtains information from dhcp without having to type it all out?

Thanks,
f.

add "sbin/modprobe ndiswrapper" to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules

edit rc.inet1.conf for your settings.

Yep. Take a look at /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf. It has alot of options in there.

Thanks, that seemed to work, however when booting I get the following errors even though I'm able to get an IP address and connect to the internet...

Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8b04)
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument
**** /sbin/dhcpcd: already running
**** /sbin/dhcpcd: if not then delete /etc/dhpc/dhcp-wlan0.pid file

Any ideas on how to fix it up without it stop working?

Some drivers don't let you set the channel. Comment that line in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf (The card that I use w/ndiswrapper only lets me set the essid...lol. Everthing on mine gets errors like that.)

It is not anything major though. Just comment the line for 'set channel'

Typically the card will find the correct channel on it's own so need to specify one. Use only those settings you absolutely need in order for it to work.

Unless the essid is masked and/or you're using encryption, you really don't even need to specify that as the card will just lock onto the signal and read the essid automatically as a nonspecified essid is assumed as "any".

If you set "use dhcp" in rc.inet1.conf you won't need to run any secondary dhcpd scripts you may have put in someplace. Everything will come up on it's own when you boot the system.
