hi

run
fdisk /dev/hda

press p
to see ur partitoon table
press n for new partion
use the deafult size provided if u want to use this space for a single partiton
then enter the code of the partion type
"b" for fat32

exit the fdisk after entering "wq"

reboot

and u r done
caution: use fdisk carefully ,do not end up messing with other partitions.so backup ur data

i have got fdisk, but you can't make a filesystem with fdisk.

FAT 32

egag,

While I don't think that mkfs.vfat is available in Slackware 10 (at least it's not available on my full install of SW10), but if memory serves me correctly you should be able to do...

mkdosfs -F 32 /dev/hxx

Just replace the xx with the correct drive and partition where you want to create the FAT 32 file system on. Don't forget to create your FAT 32 partition first!

p.s. If you need more information about mkdosfs you should check out, "man mkdosfs"

p.p.s. Typically filesystems "formatting" is done with mkfs, check "man mkfs"

Sorry egag,

I had seen an earlier post of yours and thought it was you who was having the problem...

just found " mkfs.vfat " is not in my Slack.

Yes the thread is very confusing indeed!
