Make a bootable USB Hard Drive

Hi,

I`ve installed the Slackware 12.1 on an external USB Hard Drive, but not installed LILO because i want to select manually in the bios from wich driver to make the boot.

When I select the boot from the external USB HD, it doesn`t find the operacional system, however the linux is installed there.

How can i make it bootable ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You will need to write the boot loader to the drive.

Code:
~#lilo -v -t -b /dev/your_device #sda, hda this will only test
~#lilo -v -b /dev/your_device #this will write MBR to your_device
You should 'man lilo' and 'man lilo.conf' to get a better understanding.

You will have to install LILO if you want to boot your Slackware. Installing the distro is not enough.
For your purposes it would be required to install LILO into the root partition of the Slackware drive. It is not necessary to install LILO to the disk's Master Boot Record if you use another method of selecting the disk to boot from.
