make: *** [foomatic-perl-data] Error 1

I found everything else needed so far to install my printer, but this one has me stumped.

while doing make for foomatic-db-engine, it stops with the above error. I have no clue as to what is needed now, can anyone help?

You have to post the full errors messages if you want to obtain help as Error 1 is not very precise to give an idea.

That IS the full (last) error message. Preceding on the cli page are a lot of foomatic-perl-data.c:3xxx errors.
Including foomatic-perl-data.c:3191: 'LIBXML_TEST_VERSION' undeclared (first use in this function)
and foomatic-perl-data.c:3159: request for member 'printers' in something not a structure or union
This is in Amigo, a shrunken version of Slackware9.1, and I cannot copy/paste from cli to this page.

Have you the libxml package installed ?
For error log you can do make > error.log, in this way all errors form output of make are in the file error.log

That error was fixed by re-installing.

still can't finish the printer install though, got cups started with "/etc/rc.d/rc.cups start", but when I try the advice on line 11 of http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...nting+in+Slack
it wants a password!
This is "go to admin page at http://localhost:631 and set up your printer."

Aaaarrrgh!

Mandrake was so much easier.

Someone must know a way around the login problem, help?

Mind-boggling.
It worked!

Thanks.

In maybe twenty years I might understand what I just did.

If you know how to configure httpd.conf you may edit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to suit your wishes about web server protected directories (root password required). But if you satisfy that things work well, let it as this, it is secure.
