mach64 dell inspiron 5000 no direct rendering
Heya all, for some reason I can"t get direct rendering to work with my rage mobility (mach64) chipset in this laptop I have with the 2.6.X kernels. If it wasn't for acpi constantly being made better and better with every new kernel, I wouldn't have bothered upgrading the kernel. Here are the errors I get in Xorg.0.log:
(WW) ATI(0): Failed to set up write-combining range (0xfd000000,0x800000) (II) ATI(0): MMIO write caching enabled. (--) ATI(0): 8192 kB of SGRAM (1:1) detected (using 8191 kB). (WW) ATI(0): Cannot shadow an accelerated frame buffer. I can post the whole log if necessary, but this is the only relevant part I feel. I read somewhere on a forum that I should recompile the kernel without DRI, but that doesn't make sense to me. Because then how would I get Direct Rendering without the Direct Rendering Manager? P.S. I've installed the latest current snapshot for the mach64 chipset and that didn't help at all...same error as above. |
The way I got DRI working with my ATI Rage Mobility (mach64) was this:
- Download as many mach64 DRI snapshots as I could find - Try each one in turn, going through them in date order - Stop when I found one that worked I had to go through 7 or 8 snapshots till I found one that worked. Not the answer you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but an answer none the less! (By the way, the "Failed to set up write-combining range" message isn't critical; I still get that warning myself, even though DRI is enabled.) |
Wow
Wow, that stinks...what crappy driver support...Oh well, thanks for letting me know. I actually tried all the snapshots already thinking one would work, so I guess I'll just keep trying the newer ones and see if any of the new ones ever work. Thanks again.
