Loopback the only interface after 12.1 upgrade...

Hi all,

I've done the upgrade, read the Changes and Hints, merged my .new files, and I seemingly have only one hurdle left: getting wireless to work again.

I even did this:
Quote:
If you have more than one network card and have been using the 75-network-devices.rules file, it is now called 70-persistent-net.rules (and is generated from 75-persistent-net-generator.rules). Rules for optical devices are now located in 70-persistent-cd.rules (and are generated from 75-cd-aliases-generator.rules). You will need to remove the old rules files (75-optical-devices.rules and 75-network-devices.rules) so that they don't conflict.
I ran netconfig.

Right now, the loopback is the only interface showing up as the output to ifconfig.

Any ideas on how I can diagnose and fix this problem?

Thanks,

-Drew

What is the output of `lspci -vv` and `ifconfig -a`?

T3,

You've given me a lot of help in the past week or so. Thank you.

I should have mentioned in my previous post. This is on my IBM A22m laptop with a D-Link WNA-2330 card. Everything worked fine in Slackware 12.

Maybe *tried* to help, but I don't think any advice I gave actually did anything. (I'm really just a newbie myself)

I should mention that my experience with WiFi in Linux is limited and my experience with WiFi in Slackware is nonexistent, so take what I say with a grain of salt. The D-Link WNA-2330 card uses an Atheros chipset (as seen from the lspci output and verified by googling). I *think* you need to use the madwifi drivers for Atheros chipsets, but I may be wrong. You should check out Alien Bob's guide to setting up wireless using madwifi here: http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/...ckware:madwifi

It sounds like just what you need to get it working. Admittedly I didn't read it (I have a wired desktop and I don't feel the need to learn about setting up WiFi in Slackware), but if you have any problems, just post here and I'm sure someone will help. The guide does seem very detailed (and it's Alien Bob after all), so hopefully it'll work.

T3,

I installed the madwifi for Slackware 12, and I thought that the package is now included in Slackware 12.1, but I could be wrong.

I'll check to make sure it's installed first. That solution is just simple enough that it might work.

Stay tuned...

Okay, I had to upgrade to Eric's latest Madwifi package. Now everything works.

Thanks!

Lufbery, the madwifi package is not included due to the fact that it "taints" the kernel. At least that is why i think it isn't. As you know, you need to install it so at least you got that part down.
