Long live AlienBob!

I only want to express my greatest gratitude for VLC (VideoLan) package. AlienBob you are my life savior. I have 64 bit Poor Man system, Mplayer suffers terrible drop in performance, but your precompiled VLC package is excellent in-place replacement. VLC has realy excellent performance.

Probably a Private Message would make notably more sense.

Indeed! Alien Bob provides us with a number of Slackware packages along with being a main developer for Slackware. He created 64 bit Slackware for us.
Thanks Eric!

He'd never say this himself in this thread, but about a year ago Alien Bob was made redundant by his employer with a few weeks' notice. He's found alternative employment now (and appears to be enjoying himself), but it was a stark reminder of how those we depend on can suddenly find themselves in a precarious position. If you appreciate what he does (all of it voluntary, which is staggering considering how much he does for us), and are financially able to, please consider making an appropriate donation to him: the button is in the left-hand column on his blog.

Agreed. I made a donation to Eric sometime ago. He selflessly provides us with a lot.

AlienBob is great, VLC, well it use to be King, but I find mpv to be vastly superior, it's lower in resources and performs better...

His packages in multilib & ktown are very well done and I'd be lost without them.

As for multimedia player. QMPlay2 > All!

Awesome!

Incidentally, I have found MPlayer to have much faster performance with large video files on my machine. And I still like XMMS for music. Ah, Winamp. Perhaps my single favourite piece of software written for Windows, at least the earlier versions. Well, that and 7-zip. That was way off-topic.
